Hi, I'm Bill... I created TVisio blending my Broadcast TV experience with my love of creating art. .
All The Best,
Bill Whetstone
How I Started...
I always wanted to be an artist. There were No art teachers in my small southern town (home of Gomer Pyle). I drew pictures anyway, in between 2 a day football practices. I was a 155 pound guard when we finally won the state championship. I entered Visual Design and left in 1975 right out of Auburn with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. I freelanced in Dallas and Chicago with no intention of returning home. Dad was depressed from the financial ruin of Vietnam and alcoholic self medication. After a perforated ulcer and a spiritual awakening, he quit drinking cold turkey, but his heart gave out suddenly my freshman year. The Bank took our home, so leaving home for good was my chosen path.
God had other plans for me.
I was playing trombone in Razor's Edge, a funk band on the Southside of Chicago. My plan to enter film school at Chicago Art Institute ended abruptly when 3 guys mugged me on the corner of 59th and Wentworth. I lost my trombone, my teeth and had emergency surgery on my gut. I woke up back in my hometown where they quarry the whitest, hardest marble in the world. When I was able to stand up straight, I started sculpting 18 tons of marble using a jack hammer borrowed from the Sylacauga City Streets Dept. The local cotton mill gave me a studio space. Avondale Mills is closed now with all cotton industry jobs moved to China. My marble sculpture is outside the Sylacauga Comer Arts Center today.
I am confident America will recover economically. I'm confident our greatest days are ahead. I'm grateful for all my blessings and the freedom God gave me to create meaning out of the chaos of life.
Take time to give thanks for Your blessings now and through 2013.
