Content-Curation

Occupy Wall Streeters Latest Internet Marketing Hype?

Crowdsourcing Trumps SEO with Strategic Filtering Influencers

There is a war underway between "thought originators" who think their ideas should be protected from greedy content snatchers capitalizing on the work of others. Sounds legitimate, but so does intellectual property rights. In America, You have the right to sue anyone you can prove is stealing your ideas and profiting from them without compensating you. Whaaah! Those pesky Chinese are ripping off my thoughts, replicating and profiteering from my Originality and they won't even play fair by appreciating the yuan!

Therefore, I'm gonna sick Hillary, the Universal Justice Queen of itchBay on 'em. When our Federal Reserve Original Content Printing Pressers refuse to sell the Chicoms any more of our infoglut printed dollars, they'll pay out their slanted kazoos for their unscrupulous behavior. Whaaah! Give me a freakin' break...

Meanwhile, back in reality, there truly is an overwhelming need for aggregation, curation and filtering of internet infoglut. Take Obama's State of the AAA+ Credit Rating Speech...What an Original Thought Leader! Nobody in the USA will be able to utilize The Next Web's wealth of info without reducing the flood of government pandering to welfare junkies for their votes in the next election. More relevant sub-categories, anyone?

Strategic Filtering Influencers

How about Paul Colligan's Heads Up Tuesday?
Or Joe Pollitzi's Junta42....

So far, TVisio (that's me, not some automated content app) basically uses two technologies to search and perform manual content-curation, which IMHO is the only ethical and legitimate form of curation.)

Search is still the 900 pound gorilla with Google as top dog for the foreseeable future. However, Facebook has definitely eaten into Google's total dominance. Many have noticed Google's algorithms have a harder and harder time finding out what is really relevant for popular topics. That pisses off bloggers who see their ideas duplicated by content spammers who place higher in SEO rankings.

Manual curation is old school, and I depend on myself to perform this function more than I would like to admit. Every time I visit a blog, Twitter or Facebook, I get bogged down executing manual content-curation.

Automated curation is considered by many as lazy theft by sleazey internet marketers. Others see it as a time management issue deserving consideration. I will continue to seek technology that may not exist but hopefully will enhance productivity. I promise to share the results of my search on TVisio.com.

All the Best,

Bill Whetstone

I'm planning to Feed Flipboard.com a stream of info and news by the activities of my contacts and partners. The result could be filtered and ranked by algorithms trained by my own consumption habits.

Soon this function will be financed by advertising or by selling the generated interest profiles. Google is most likely to create the necessary algorithms and background services. But without a "Serendipity" feature, they will fail to create a pleasurable user experience for consumers. Aggregation needs to stimulate serendipity yet still provide convenience.

Maybe Amazon will figure out how Content could be "tagged" in more meaningful ways. Content without context is mostly irrelevant. Algorithms for search, aggregation, syndication and human based curation rely on each other. Content creators and Curators are asking tough Legal questions about the rules and ethical questions around content aggregation and synchronizing communities.

What can Curators gather and re-publish? Do we have the right to get paid for Content-Curation? Who’s adding the real value, the content makers or the Curators-Publishers?

To Creators who make content and hope to monetize their work, Curation can seem like a theft of their work. Intellectual property rights and hard to define. Is Curation about saving money, or adding value?

Value Gravity has shifted from content creation to Content- Curation.

Content Curation platforms are re-inventing themselves to filter infoglut for all who suffer attention deficit due to too much news stimulation.

MySpace.com has re-positioned itself to function as a curation and filtering destination.

Next media curation sites include OneSpot and Curation Station. They provide a work flow environment that allows marketers to review industry content; mix in their own original white papers, blog posts and other content; and easily publish them to a blog or industry portal site.

B2b-driven industry sites are a specialty of such tools. Novell Inc., for instance, uses Curata to publish its Intelligent Workload Management portal, while 3M Co. uses Curation Station to publish content about the company to its careers page.

Check out other curation companies such as StorifyCurated.By and KeepStream that pull together content on key topics—often leveraging social media such as Twitter posts as the source material—then publishing that collection to a corporate blog or website.

Content Curator Checklist.

Curators need to bundle.
Reorder things.
Distribute bundles.
Editorialize.
Update your bundles.
Add participation widgets.
Track Your audience.

Reasons No one has created basic curation tools.
1. Building-cross-platform tools is difficult.
2. Fear of platform vendors.
3. Assumption  these features are going to be used by weirdos or professionals only.
A new monetization strategy would INSTANTLY become available for platform vendors like Twitter and Google Buzz.
