I don't know why you have made it a personal mission to drag a kid's (yes, he's 20, but is still a kid in comparison to those making allegations against him) name through the mud.

It's a shame that so many share the "I'm FIRST" mentality. In the end, the one who gets the story right is the one that gets the fame.

Mike, you are truly a disgrace to your profession, and an unfortunate failure at life. First, you had to wait until (presumably) a more-informed reader of your worthless column informed you as to LaMichael James’s criminal record, because you’re so uninterested in journalistic integrity that you didn’t even bother to do your homework before publishing this libelous garbage.

Second, if you knew what you were talking about, you would know that were a background check performed on all potential Heisman candidates, Cam’s would come back showing that the charges against him were dismissed.That’s right, dismissed. That means, in a court of law, those charges could not be presented in aggravation, because legally, he has no criminal record to speak of. So, by your own CRITERA (that’s right, not criterium – grammar check on Aisle Three!), which you believe to be passing and rushing statistics as well as criminal background checks and overall excellence, Cam is the clear winner.

Third, let’s look at yet another instance where you disregard, again, all logic and fact to support your own agenda: “Newton has legal issues, potential NCAA issues and who knows what other issues on his resume.” As a matter of fact, Newton does not have legal issues; that’s been resolved (see above). As for potential NCAA issues – doesn’t every player in an NCAA sport have potential NCAA issues? Obviously it takes only a suggestion to cause an uproar – which you so willingly participate in – so by being an NCAA athlete, you have POTENTIAL NCAA issues. Do you think about things before you go on rampages?

Finally, as to who knows what other issues are on his resume, I ask you – who knows what other issues are on yours? You take a moment to question a young man’s integrity and smear his name and reputation with absolutely no basis for it. But that begs the question: What about your integrity? Clearly you have no journalistic integrity, and clearly you lack personal integrity from this abomination of an article you wrote. You also clearly lack respect for the constitutional foundation of this fine country we live in, which allows you to publish this trash, since you are happy to convict someone based upon nothing more than a hint and to disregard the system which already adjudicated Newton’s “legal issues” and dismissed it.

Let’s also visit the fact that you are deciding your Heisman vote well before it is even time to decide. The season is merely three-quarters of the way completed. You don’t deserve a vote if this is the way you use yours, and frankly I’m not sure why you have one anyway. Perhaps you should evaluate the players over the course of the season before you cast your ballot. Down, boy, down! It is people like you, not like Mr. Newton, who cast a shadow on the (buzz word) integrity of the Heisman.
Your article sums it all up nicely – you weren’t going to vote for Cam Newton, no matter what. I suspect that has something to do with your ties to Florida, but speculation has no place here, and you should take that to heart.

As an aside, it is interesting that you mention O.J. Simpson – should his record even count? He was accused of murder, after all, and the result of the jury trial is of no consequence to the likes of you.
